C.A. Jones is seeking Temporary Service Electricians for long term shipyard work in Norfolk, VA. Pay to be based upon skill level (J1 through J4).
These positions are for day shift (6:00a to 2:45p)
GUIDELINES FOR TEMPORARY SERVICE MECHANIC
JOURNEYPERSON 4 (Temporary Service Mechanic)
Must meet all Journeyman Temporary Service Mechanic 3 requirements
Must be able to oversee a small group of people
Must have the ability to plan, organize and prioritize well and handle problems and concerns without assistance
Must be proficient with the requirements of the processes and the equipment used
Must be proficient with the requirements of the applicable OSHA and NAVSEA Standard Items
Must know how to set up a job efficiently
Must be able to install and maintain freeze protection and backflow preventers
Must be able to repair and overhaul temporary fire stations
Must be able to place connecting temperature water coolers aboard ship for drinking purposes
JOURNEYPERSON 3 (Temporary Service Mechanic)
Must be able to install rat guards on lines and hoses with diameters 1-1/2” and larger
Must be able to install and maintain freeze protection and backflow preventers with little supervision
Must be able to set up and perform hydrostatic tests on fire and potable water hoses
Must be able to repair and overhaul temporary fire stations with little supervision
Must be able to place connecting temperature water coolers aboard ship for drinking purposes with little supervision
Must be able to perform daily walk through and inspection of all services run by the temporary services shop to ensure compliance with NAVSEA Standard Items 009-07, 009-08 and 009-28
Must be able to install and hookup air dryers
Must be able to inspect, repair and test air and water manifolds for installation aboard ship
Must be able to install quick disconnects within 10 feet of hull penetrations to facilitate the deployment of smoke curtains
Must be able to route hoses, lines, and leads
Must be able to inspect hoses, vent ducting, blowers, air manifolds, electrical disconnect, spider boxes, and cables
JOURNEYPERSON 2 (Temporary Service Mechanic)
Must be able to route hoses, lines, and leads with some supervision
Must be able to inspect hoses, vent ducting, blowers, air manifolds, electrical disconnect, spider boxes, and cables with some supervision
Must be able to install rat guards on lines and hoses with diameters 1-1/2” and larger

JOURNEYPERSON 1 (Temporary Service Mechanic)
Must be able to assist with routing hoses, lines, and leads
Must know how to read basic drawings of ships’ layout
Must perform all ship board work in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items 009-08, 009-24 and 009-28
Must be able to assist with inspections of the hoses, vent ducting, blowers, air manifolds, electrical disconnects, spider boxes, and cables
Must be able to use and have general knowledge of all basic hand tools and their uses, and the ability to use them safe and appropriately
Must understand ship nomenclature, including but not limited to, the ability to describe compartment listing, identify location, navigate vessel, and complete nomenclature quiz
Must understand and practice good ventilation technique
Must have the ability to determine completeness of work performed by other Trades/Shops
Must have the ability to protect ship and ship’s equipment and how to use anti-chaffing material on lines, leads, and hoses
Must know how to receive and perform receipt inspection of all rental equipment, such as air compressors, generators, etc.
Must have the knowledge to setup, inspect, and maintain berms for rental equipment
Must know how to follow instructions for properly and safely stopping and starting air compressors and generators
Must have forklift certificate and know how to properly and safely move fuel cells and refuel rental equipment
Must be able to ensure that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure
Must have the basic understanding of ship systems layout, installation and repair.
Must have WAF training
Must have the ability to plan, organize and prioritize well
Must be able to perform job safely
Must know what personal protective equipment (PPE) to use and when
Must be able to read and write effectively in English, speak with clarity and listen actively
Must be able to work well with others
